The museum founded in 1952 and first open to the public in the former Shanghai Racecourse clubhouse, now at 325 Nanjing Road West. In 1959, it moved into the former Zhonghui Building at 16 Henan Road South, which previously housed insurance companies and bank offices. In 1992, it was allocated a piece of land on People's Square by the Shanghai municipal government, as its new site.

Construction of the current building started in August 1993. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1996. It is 29.5 meters high with five floors, covering a total area of 39,200 m². Designed by a local architect, the new museum building is in the shape of an ancient, bronze, tripod cooking vessel called "ding". It is said that the inspiration for the design was specifically provided by the Da Ke Ding, now on exhibit in the museum. The building has round top and a square base, symbolizing the ancient Chinese perception of the world as "round sky, square earth". The museum style and presentation surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating ancient wisdom and philosophy.

The museum has a collection of over 120,000 pieces, including bronze, ceramics, calligraphy, furniture, jades, ancient coins, paintings, seals, sculptures, minority art and foreign art, accounting for almost half of the total such collections in the country. It houses several items of national importance, including one of three extant specimens of a "transparent" bronze mirror from the Han Dynasty. Over 400 pieces of exquisite bronze wares distinctively shaped and beautifully decorated (some with historic inscriptions) cover the history of ancient Chinese bronze art. Marriage is to human culture what the atom is to the physical world.

Nowadays, people are becoming more and more open-minded and have the freedom to love and to be loved without becoming a burden to the other. Living together before marriage is a quite prevalent phenomenon nowadays, especially among the young blood.

Trial marriage, marriage in a trial and error situation and often a euphemism for cohabitation, is all the rage. It might offer an opportunity for people to find out if the marriage would really work and hence ensure successful marriages.

In China today, people no longer regard cohabitation as a revolutionary behavior. Instead, more and more young people choose to live together to prepare for a serious marriage in the future. As contemporary women have enough income to feed themselves, they tend to abandon the traditional model of marriage where husbands act as the backbone of a family to support wives and children. They regard emotional harmony and sex as the most important elements of marriage.

In Shanghai, more and more women aged 20 to 35 live with their boyfriends before getting married. Among those who received a higher education, the ratio is even higher. A majority of young women in big cities, unmarried at the conventional age of marriage, choose to cohabit with their boyfriends or have sex partners. Their choices reflect a change from earlier attitudes towards marriage and they believe that the trial marriage functions well for them to learn more about their partners.

However, trial marriage is really a very controversial issue. To some people, it is quite acceptable and some kind of reasonable. Only the couple lives together, can they know each other more deeply and roundly. One may pretend to be so great and perfect, it seems like you have got exactly what you are looking for all years. But the truth might be shocking in many ways for his unbearable aspects. Merits and demerits will be exposed completely after cohabitation. If one can bear the other one's demerits for a certain period of time, then it will lead to a positive ending. It will not be that easy to divorce after they get married.

It has also been taken advantage of by those who lack the sense of marriage of responsibility. "One night stand" is a typical example of such cases. Some people have an affair with many persons of opposite sex under the name of "trial marriage". Actually, the infamous "one night stand" has nothing to do with "trial marriage". Cohabitation is definitely different from "one night stand". Cohabitation is based on love while "one night stand" is more sensory. There have always been women who would have sex with any man, but it is possible there are more such women today because of the birth control pill and feminist attitudes.

Even statistics in the West show that people who have lived together (in effect, had a trial marriage) are more likely to divorce than people who did not live together before they get married.

Many people are very strongly against having multiple partners. They believe that being committed to one person is already too much for many people to handle. It will also carry with it the big risk of sex-related diseases. According to them, some things can be tried before you make up your mind to do it, like you will try to start your own career. However, marriage can never be tried in your life. Marriage is holy and any try of it is a violation of marriage rules.

They are managed by producer Lee Soo Man and are currently the largest group under SM Entertainment. The members are Leeteuk (the leader), Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kibum, and Kyuhyun. The group initially debuted with twelve members on November 6, 2005, but since the addition of Kyuhyun on May 23, 2006, they have become a thirteen-member group.

Super Junior has released two studio albums and one CD single since 2005. Their most successful album, "Don't Don", was the second best-selling album of 2007. In addition, the group has earned four music awards from the M.NET/KM Music Festival, another four from the Golden Disk Awards, and is the second group to win Favorite Artist Korea at the MTV Asia Awards after JTL.

Since 2000, Korean talent agency and record label SM Entertainment has been holding annual auditions to scout new talents that complemented the success of boy band H.O.T and girl group S.E.S, both of which were created by SM founder and producer Lee Soo Man in the late 1990s. In 2001, the company held their first oversea casting auditions in Beijing, where they discovered Han Geng, who was chosen among 3,000 applicants. Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Eunhyuk, Siwon, and Kibum were discovered under the company's annual auditions that were held in Seoul while Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, Donghae, and Ryeowook were discovered through SM-sponsored contests and singing competitions.

Not long after boy band TVXQ's debut in 2003, news about Lee's unprecedented plans of forming another boy band quickly spread over the Internet. In early 2005, SM Entertainment confirmed the news and announced that a twelve-member all-male singing group would debut near the end of the year, promoting the project group to be "The Gateway to Stardom of Asia". For a while the group was called "O.V.E.R", the acronym for "Obey the Voice for Each Rhythm." Before the group settled with their current name, the company labeled them as simply "Junior", a representation of the members' young ages when they first joined SM Entertainment. However, after the members' showcased their different talents to the company during an SM-sponsored picnic, their company finalized their name to "Super Junior". Soon the group became officially "Super Junior 05", the first generation of Super Junior. Super Junior had been known for their infamous line-up, a concept being very similar to Japan's girl group, Morning Musume. Intended to be a rotational group, there was to be new members replacing some of the old members each year, forming a new Super Junior generation every time. However, this concept was abandoned when a new member was added in May 2006 and the group became known as just Super Junior, without the suffix "05". Most members of Super Junior 05 have been actors, MCs, models, or DJs prior debut. Heechul and Kibum made their debuts in dramas and films; Leeteuk, Yesung, Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Siwon made cameo television appearances; Han Geng made his first media appearance as a model, and Heechul was also already an established DJ before debut.

They made their pre-debut appearance on the Korean channel, M.NET on September 11, 2005. At the showcase, Super Junior 05 performed various styles of hip-hop dancing. The group danced to B2K's "Take It To The Floor." Han Geng, Eunhyuk, and Donghae also performed a separate dance away from the group, dancing to Usher's "Caught Up".

As 2007 approached, the group began to branch out to different splinter groups. Super Junior-K.R.Y, the first subgroup of Super Junior that debuted on November 5, 2006, began to give separate performances away from the group to promote their new songs in the latter months of 2006. It is a trio formed by Super Junior members Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung. The label discovered that these three members developed a particular persona and subsequent fan-base that was separate from the rest of the group, and they also had similar musical qualities. The label therefore grouped these three members together to perform particular songs to target a particular audience. Being amongst the most vocally powerful members of Super Junior, Super Junior-K.R.Y are credited to singing mournful ballads, a style that has proven very popular in recent years although stagnation in the style's development is causing it to lose its once fresh evocative power.

In February 2007 arrived a second subgroup, Super Junior-T. In March, several members of Super Junior participated in an original soundtrack for the first time, singing the opening and ending themes "Success" and "H.I.T" for the Korean miniseries, H.I.T. The subgroup's official debut was on February 25, 2007 performing the title track, "Rokuko" and "First Express" with famous trot singer Bang Shil Yi. The single's rankings quickly rose in both Korea and Thailand-based music stations and it was No.1 on the charts two months later. Due to their active participation in trot music and their comedic appearances, the subgroup gained outstanding attention from the older audience despite their well-known young idol images that was created for them in their mother group.

On April 19, 2007, four members of Super Junior, Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, and Kyuhyun, were injured in a car accident that deeply affected the group's schedules and progress throughout the year.

On October 2, 2007, SM Entertainment officially announced a third Super Junior sub-unit, Super Junior-M, a subgroup designated for the Chinese market. The announcement of the new sub-unit created a controversy between the fans and the management, as fans did not support the management to add new members to the subgroup. Responding to Super Junior's rising popularity in China, Super Junior's management, SM Entertainment, decided to compose a new Super Junior sub-unit that is to focus entirely in the Chinese market. Starting from April 4, 2008 to April 7, 2008, the seven members were released to the media in a chain of trailer clips on different days, introducing the members' versatility. They are Han Geng, Donghae, Siwon, Henry, Kyuhyun, Zhou Mi and Ryeowook. A trailer with of all seven members was released on the group's debut day, April 8. Before the official name of the subgroup was released, they were often referred to as Super Junior-C, with "C" representing "China". On April 3, 2008, SM Entertainment released the official name of the subgroup, Super Junior-M, with "M" representing the word "Mandarin", expressing the subgroup's ambition to become successful in the Chinese music market not limited to only China. The "M" can also represent a list of other aspects, such as the first letter of their debut album, Me, and also "mi", which means "fanatic" in Mandarin.

A fourth Super Junior sub-unit was created that same year as well to prevent the group from fading away in the Korean music industry since half of the group has pursued their goals to China. With five members from Super Junior-T and Yesung, they formed the subgroup, Super Junior-Happy.

Since Super Junior's debut in South Korea, the group endeavored to share an equal share of influence across Asia. The group has paid many visits to countries outside of their homeland to promote their music, especially to China and Thailand.

After more rumors regarding adding an extra Chinese member to the subgroup, the fans decided to gain a legal representation as part of SM Entertainment's stockholders. As of March 20, 2008, Super Junior fans purchased 58,206 stocks of SM Entertainment, holding 0.3% of the company's entire stock. They released a statement that they will obtain all chances to prevent SM Entertainment from adding new members and to keep Super Junior as only thirteen.

Things that she does are so unreasonable, and he even thought that he had never met a woman like her! First of all, she is cranky as hell, he just cannot go up to her and say, "Hi, grandma, how are you doing today?" she would say "I am not dead yet, are you happy?" Secondly, she yells at everyone in the family, even his grandpa, who is a math teacher, working so hard for the family and was still working till the age of 75, even with multiple illnesses like heart attack, asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and trouble walking.

Some of my friends also hate their grandmas to a certain extent, as these grannies are so nagging, annoying, or superstitious. The young people do not talk about or speak to their grandmas, who try to speak to them, but are finally told off because the youngest are sick of it.

I think these grandmas are still in their generation so what they think are different from us. That is why there are things that we get angry with them, plus the age difference and the though of respecting the old - it all adds up, so sometimes grandmas can be quite annoying. However, please, take the nagging lightly, after all she is your grandma. Do not hate your grandma. She is old and there may not be too many occasions where you can see her. You should know that when you grow old, you change into a kid, showing tantrums andĄ You know, when one grows older they tend to say what they want, they have short lives left so they speak more and they say more. Anyway, treat her well, as you only have one grandma. Once she is gone, there is no turning back.

I do not have any problems with old people. I always respect the elders even though I do not know them. We also have an Old Granny with us. She was a great woman and amazing back when she was healthy from what I saw and heard. As all the women have the tendency to nag, she is no exception. She likes to tell you not to forget eating breakfast at least six times in span of half an hour! Sure she is nagging at times, but I know that she does that because she cares for us. It is just some sort of her way to show concern and affection for us.

I am very close with her, closer than my parents and grandma even. She is going through some rough times now. Given her age she is going through all sorts of emotional, mental and physical problems that we know or do not know about. And at that age she does not socialize as much as young people do. When someone is talking about something she will always try to join/butt in and ask "Who?" or "What happened?" A lot of times she fears being just left alone without others around. She feels lonely and needs attention, too. Whenever I meet her we would sit and just chat about everything. I try to appreciate her and make a conscious effort to ask her how she is every time we meet or how her day has been. She is lovely. She is getting very old and fragile but she still keeps that smile on her face when she sees all her children and grandchildren and even great grandchild.

You must tolerate old people.
Memory Games for Children

October 2, 2008

Using the memory games for children is one of the helpful techniques to improve the memory skills and concentration of your child. These games are full of fun and perfect not only for the children, but the adults also can enjoy them. They can be a perfect recreation and distractive activity. You can use playing cards, puzzles or toys for playing the memory games. Some of the common memory games for children are concentration, memory test, Chinese whispers, word associations, mismatches and communication.

You can play the concentration game using a deck of 52 playing cards. In the game, all of the cards are laid face down on a surface and two cards are flipped face up over each turn. The object of the game is to turn over pairs of matching cards. Concentration can be played with any number of players and is an especially good game for young children, though adults may find it challenging and stimulating as well. The scheme is often used in quiz shows and can be employed as an educational game.

The memory test can be played with a single child or a number of children using a pen and a paper. Arrange a tray with a selection of 5-20 common objects such as pencil, key, spoon, button, coin, etc. Cover this tray with a cloth before you bring it in the room. Let the kids have a view of the objects for 1-2 minutes and then cover it again. Ask the children to write down the list of objects that they have seen. A child writing the longest list from his/her memory is declared winner of the game. When you are playing individually, you can change the game by removing one object and asking the child to identify which object is removed.

Chinese whispers is another interesting memory game for children. The kids are asked to sit in a line or a circle, so that they can whisper to their neighbor and not able to hear any players further away. The first player is given a short phrase that he/she whispers to the neighbor in a low voice. The neighbor then passes the message through the whispers. The game continues until the last player announces the message. The message received by the last player is often quite different from the original message. This game has no objective and no winner. It offers a good exercise to judge the memory, listening capacity and power of gossip.

The word association is one of the interesting memory games for children. The children are asked to sit in a circle. The first child starts by saying any sentence in the story. The next child repeats the sentence and adds some information to that sentence. In this way, the kids continue to remember the previous sentences and build up a story with their additions. This game can be altered by working through the matching items or alphabets to the first letter to each child's name. This game not only improves the memory, but also encourages the child to be creative in storytelling.

Mismatches is a good game for a small group of children. The kids are divided into two teams. One team is out of room, while another team makes mismatches by changing the objects in that room. After 3 minutes, the second team is allowed to enter the room. They are given one minute to spot the mismatches. The points are given on the basis of identification of mismatches. The team having the highest score is declared the winner.

Communication is the memory game that can be played indoors as well as outdoors. It tests the listening and communicating skills of the child. The children are given a plastic container, filled with exactly the same Legos, blocks etc. They are allowed to sit back-to-back, one is caller and other is listener. The caller explains the listener about how to put together the pieces. The listener makes sure about what he/she has understood. Once all the pieces have been used, the caller and the listener compare the structures to confirm about their communication. This game can also be played with felt and felt board, or paper and pen.

There are several online memory games available. There are wonderful CDs and DVDs of 3-D graphics and compelling tales that can attract the attention of children.

Memory games for children offer an opportunity to exercise their brains and help to improve their memory as well as their language and concentration skills.
